Egyptian publication Koraplus.com has stated that the 59-year-old's return to Saudi Arabia is as good as done.
While there hasn't been a confirmation from either camp, it appears as though Mosimane could begin his rescue mission with the club that is currently in 19th position in a 20-team league.
If appointed, Mosimane will be the seventh coach taking charge of the team in just two years, with six managers having come and gone since 2022. The latest being Youssef Manai who lasted just two months.
A leaky defence:
By far the biggest issue Mosimane will have to resolve is the club's leaky defence. In 19 matches this season, they have conceded 52 goals – an average of 2.7 goals per match. Perhaps their 4-1-4-1 formation owing to that as the defence lacks adequate cover – something Mosimane will have to address.
Lack of firepower:
Their defence is not the only problem faced by the club. In 19 matches, the club has scored a lowly 22 goals (1.1 goals per match) it is little wonder that they find themselves in the precarious position. Seven of their goals have come courtesy of Cameroon's Karl Toko Ekambi, who has headed off to AFCON. That defensive midfielder Grzegorz Krychowiak is their second highest scorer with three goals is a concern.
A lack of fitness:
One thing Mosimane wants is a fit team. We've seen at Al Ahli Jeddah and Al Wahda that before he implements any tactical acumen on the club, he ensures that his players are fit enough to carry out his instructions, which is why he relies heavily on the services of long-serving Kabelo Rangoaga, who has been with Mosimane for over a decade.
A big plus for Mosimane is the fact that the league only resumes in February – meaning that if he were to take charge, he would have approximately a month to fine tune his side and escape relegation.
