AmaZulu Secure Much-Needed Victory Over Sekhukhune

AmaZulu Secure Much-Needed Victory Over Sekhukhune

AmaZulu got back to winning ways in the DStv Premiership with a 1-0 triumph over Sekhukhune United on Wednesday night.

DStv Premiership

Result: AmaZulu 1-0 Sekhukhune United

Date: 13 December 2023

Venue: King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium

Ben Motshwari was fit enough to make the starting line-up, while veteran defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele was recalled by Usuthu head coach Pablo Franco Martin.

Sekhukhune, meanwhile, recalled Daniel Cardoso and Tashreeq Morris after the goalless draw with SM Mabako in the CAF Confederation Cup over the weekend.

The visitors came into the clash having won their last two league matches, while the KwaZulu-Natal outfit lost their last two, which included a 1-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns last weekend.

There was not much to separate the two sides until Usuthu broke the deadlock in the 23rd minute, with Junior Dion getting his fourth league goal of the campaign with a close-range finsih.

With Sekhukhune unable to find their way back into the contest in the first half, coach Lehlohonolo Seema opted for three changes at the start of the second stanza as Kamohelo Mokotjo, Thamsanqa Masiya and Lebohang Mabotja.

The visitors pushed for an equaliser in the second half, with Chibuike Ohizu going close after the hour mark when his goal-bound strike was blocked in the box.

Coach Martin looked to refresh his side for the final 15 minutes of the second half by introducing Mlondi Mbanjwa and Victor Letsoalo to see out the final stages of the encounter.

Here's how they lined up:

AmaZulu: Mzimela, Jooste, Hanamub, Fielies, Mobara, Mphahlele, Motshwari, Ngema, Dion, Moremi, Esktein

Subs: Mothwa, Zulu, Gumede, Brooks, Human, Mbanjwa, Ndlovu, Kwem, Letsoalo

Sekhukhune United: Learner, Mkhabela, Ntiya-Ntiya, Cardoso, Baartman, Mokhele, Mokwana, Webber, Morris, Mkhize, Mncube
