Sukazi On PSL Critics: 'The Armchair Is Very Comfortable'

Sukazi On PSL Critics: 'The Armchair Is Very Comfortable'

Ahead of the announcement of a massive new title sponsor for the Premier Soccer League, TS Galaxy boss Tim Sukazi has pledged his support behind Dr Irvin Khoza and the rest of the PSL Executive Committee.

There has been a lot of uncertainty over the league's sponsorship.

This is after reports in local media suggesting that current sponsor DStv will pack it in and call it a day, leaving one of Africa's leading leagues without a title sponsor.

But an announcement will be made at the PSL's headquarters in Parktown on Wednesday morning, where a new sponsor - believed to be betting giants Betway - is expected to be announced.

A confident Sukazi pledged his support to the PSL's leadership and their ability to safely transition the league into a new era.

"So look, personally, I'm not so much privy to the daily ongoings of the league. But then yeah, I've got to realise, probably at the same time as yourselves. I haven't seen any formal announcement or official announcement. But look, if anything of the sort happens, I have trust and confidence in my executive. I have trust and confidence in our Chairman and he has done wonderful things over many years," he told journalists at the Premier's International Cup in Mpumalanga.

"He has done the impossible and I can safely say and rest assure everyone that we are in good hands. So if there's a situation, it will be salvaged for sure. We will have football next season. It's all I can say, no doubt about it and our league will remain as prestigious if not more than what it was. So I think as football custodians, we must hold it in place and afford our league the opportunity to obviously organize themselves if there would be any kind of transition, give them the opportunity to transition us into our new era with a new partner, if at all," he added.

"I think that needs to be the spirit and the approach, you know, it's easy sometimes to be hard and criticise things that they are not involved in, you know, because the armchair is very comfortable, but when you're in it, there's a lot of challenges that you have to go through and overcome. So I give the chairperson and the executive the utmost benefit. And I know I'm confident they will take us through whatever things will happen," he added.
