Orlando Pirates have continued bolstering their ranks, with insiders providing the details of the club's latest recruit.
With the likes of DDC product Relebohile Mofokeng and Thalente Mbatha having emerged as some of the top performers for the Buccaneers in the 2023/24 season, the club is looking at investing more on young talents, with goalkeeper Bayanda Thabethe being their latest recruit.

As confirmed by sources close to Bucs' dealings, Thabethe who is from KwaZulu-Natal has been signed to add competition to the team although he might have to start in the reserve side.
"Bayanda Thabethe is a talented youngster who is only 19 and has been doing well and there's a bright future for him in football if he remains grounded. He has done well for his team, Midlands Academy, as they won the regional league and qualified for inter-regional playoffs. Unfortunately, they lost and didn't get promotion," said the source.
Pirates have veteran goalkeepers Siyabonga Mpontshane and Richard Ofori facing uncertain futures, which might lead to the club fast-tracking the development of Thabethe and other youngsters in the team.

"Interestingly, the boy (Thabethe) played in this year's edition of the Pirates U21 Cup and he was impressive with his performances. That's where Pirates spotted him and they were quick to act as there were other teams that were interested in the boy's services. Sekhukhune United and TS Galaxy are some of the clubs that showed interest.
"In the games he played during the Pirates Cup, I'm sure he saved about eight penalties in total on their way to the semi-finals. He is so impressive with his shot-stopping, he's got height, physique, and other qualities you would want to see in a goalkeeper. He will start in the DDC (DStv Diski Challenge) at Pirates and will be allowed to grow with a possibility of making a step up to the first team in future. For now, he has to compete with DJ Cleo's son (Zoey Monyepao) in Pirates' DDC team," concluded the source.
