Salary Cuts: The Pirates Situation

Salary Cuts: The Pirates Situation

With a host of PSL clubs publicly confirming that they have felt the effect of COVID-19 in terms of their finances, there have been no talks of salary cuts at Orlando Pirates.

With the current season brought to an indefinite halt, the likes of AmaZulu, Cape Town City, Cape Umoya United, Highlands Park and TS Galaxy have declared that they could be forced to cut salaries if the pandemic continues.

Cape Town City have subsequently issued a letter to players and staff where they have confirmed salary cuts of between 30% - 100%.

As things stand, Siya sources have informed the crew that there are no talks of salary cuts at the Buccaneers at the moment, with everyone still being paid in full.

With major sponsors like Vodacom, adidas, Caltex, Ford and LG amongst others, Pirates are understood to be weathering the financial storm brought about by COVID-19 and the club is said to be honoring their commitments to players and non-playing staff.

Pirates, like the rest of the country are currently awaiting the outcome of an EXCO meeting, which should provide clarity on the way forward for football in the currently.

Pirates are in fourth position on the log having played 23 games and they trail log leaders Kaizer Chiefs by eight points.
