In March this year, Orlando Pirates announced that Rulani Mokwena would be joining Chippa United along with one of Pirates first team analysts as his assistant coach.
The former Pirates assistant coach was appointed at the helm of the Chili Boys on March 04, this year, with the Buccaneers at the time confirming that Michael Loftman would be joining him as a number two at the Port Elizabeth outfit.
However, Loftman did not end up heading to Chippa and instead has remained with the Pirates technical team.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with Soccer Laduma this week, Head Coach Mokwena has since explained his version of the situation.
"To be honest, I don't know. I spoke to Michael prior to accepting and Michael showed willingness. He was extremely interested to come and, of course, we needed to get support from the chairman for it to happen. The chairman gave his blessing, but I don't know what happened thereafter. But it's not important. It's just about us moving forward and providing that opportunity to someone else. We are happy with the technical team we have put together here. The players are happy with the technical team," he said.
Mokwena also discussed:
- How his move to Chippa came about
- How he saw the appointment of Josef Zinnbauer coming
- The talks about him not wanting to work with Zinnbauer
