Orlando Pirates Unlikely To Make Offer For TS Galaxy Goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi

Orlando Pirates Unlikely To Make Offer For TS Galaxy Goalkeeper Melusi Buthelezi

A reported Orlando Pirates target is unlikely to make a move in the July transfer window as the Soweto giants have set their sights on a Bafana Bafana duo.

In the second round of the season, Melusi Buthelezi emerged as TS Galaxy's number one, having taken over from Vasilije Kolak who had made the position his own earlier in the campaign.

From the 11 appearances that he made in Galaxy's relegation-fighting campaign, Buthelezi kept seven clean sheets and has been one of the top performers for the side.

While the 24-year-old had been disrupted in his progress after suffering stab wounds in a hijacking incident in Soweto in Gauteng in February, the Nquthu-born player returned strong to finish the season on a high by helping the team to retain their status in Mzansi's topflight.

The former Jomo Cosmos player has been monitored by Pirates among other clubs in the DStv Premiership for his progress in the two years that he has been playing in the elite league.

However, indications are that the Buccaneers are unlikely to make a formal offer for the shot-stopper at this point in time, with the CAF Confederation Cup finalists having set their sights on more experienced keepers in Bafana and SuperSport United number one Ronwen Williams, as well as his understudy in the national team, Veli Mothwa from AmaZulu.

Bucs are expected to make an approach for the two Bafana players in the coming weeks as part of the plans to strengthen the team's goalkeeping department for next season.

Buthelezi is left with one year on his three-year deal with Galaxy, which he signed when he joined the club in 2020.
