Ndlondlo: How Pirates Can Fight For The Title

Ndlondlo: How Pirates Can Fight For The Title

Orlando Pirates have not fulfilled their pre-season expectations in the PSL so far this season, and one player who's looking to improve his individual performances is midfielder Ndabayithethwa Phillip Ndlondlo who speaks exclusively to Soccer Laduma in this interview.

Bucs have a high profile game in the Premiership against the Brazilians on Saturday, after the Africa Cup of Nations break where South African domestic football was not played for over a month.

After arriving in the middle of last season from Marumo Gallants, Ndlondo looked to be settling in well but has not kicked on in the first half of the current campaign. Pirates were expected to push Sundowns for the title but are far behind at the half-way stage.

Ndlondlo is looking to be more involved in the creation and scoring of goals, hoping to inspire his team going forward this year.

"I know I have not done very well so far this season. First and foremost I haven't been a regular in the team and that's not good. Secondly, when given the chance I have not performed the way I would have loved to perform and I have to change that in the second round of the season," Ndlondlo admitted to the Siya crew.

"To do that I have to have more assists by creating more chances for my teammates and then I should also be able to score more goals so that I can help the team win games. I think that's where my game lacked in the first round and if I can improve on that then I will be a complete player not just for my own benefit but for the team as well," Ndlondlo said.

The midfielder also wanted to add that as a team the whole side was inconsistent in the first round despite winning the MTN8 trophy earlier in the campaign, though he believes they can remedy these problems. Ndlondlo has not given up on the title race yet, as he is aiming to beat Sundowns on Saturday to get right back in it.

"Yes, we won the MTN8 (against Mamelodi Sundowns in the final) but in the league we were not consistent. We at times lost games which we could have won or we even drew some of them.

"So, we need to chance that and be consistent with good results. If we can improve our running rate then we can fight for the league title as well. It's not lost yet and that's our aim right now when we restart the league," Ndlondlo observed.
