A former teammate of Isaac Nhlapo has weighed in on the talk of a potential move to Orlando Pirates for the Chippa United defender.
As reported in edition 1222 of Soccer Laduma, Nhlapho will be offered to Pirates as cover in their central defence, having proven to be one of the influential players in his position at the clubs he has played for in recent seasons.
The 30-year-old has made 21 league appearances this season and is expected to play an important role for the Nedbank Cup finalists in the fight against relegation in remaining four matches of the campaign.
Former Pirates midfielder Solomon Mathe, who played with Nhlapo at the now defunct Platinum Stars when the defender's fine performances earned him a Bafana Bafana call up under Ephraim 'Shakes' Mashaba, says the towering player has all the attributes of a quality player.
"What I like about him is that he is not scared of playing his heart out, and he is strong. He is quick and he can jump although I feel that he can still improve on his aerial ability. He has got all the characteristics of a good defender and I think he can play at Pirates and do well. When I look at their defenders, they don't seem to have someone who is quick at centre-back," said Mathe, speaking to the Siya crew.
"He is one player who is willing to learn and is not one of those who take criticism to heart. He doesn't talk back when advised and that is very encouraging about him. He always asks questions as he is someone who wants to learn and improve and is always willing to do extra training," added Mathe.
