Bucs End Spain Tour With Loss In 5-Goal Thriller

Bucs End Spain Tour With Loss In 5-Goal Thriller

Orlando Pirates ended their tour in Spain with a defeat to Qatar side Al Sadd on Friday evening.

Tshegofatso Mabasa was back in the side after replacing Evidence Makgopa, who came off injured against Granada on Wednesday while new signing Selaelo Rasebotja was also back in the side.

The Buccaneers did not get off to a good start when Al Sadd opened the scoring after just three minutes when Hashim Ali took advantage of careless play at the back and calmly fired home.

Pirates weren't behind for too long when Mabasa was slipped through on goal and showed good composure to lob the on-rush Al-Sadd goalkeeper for his first goal on the tour.

Riveiro's men completed the turnaround a couple through Mabasa, who completed his brace with another composed finish after some good work by Karim Kimvuidi who broke through on goal.

Al Sadd came out more organised after the water break and pulled themselves level in the 40th minute, taking advantage of some more carless playing from the back by Pirates and allowing Gonzalo Plata to fire past Melusi Buthelezi via a deflection.

Riveiro responded with a triple change at the start of the second half, with Gilberto , Ndlondlo and Thuso Moleleki replacing Mabasa, Rasebotja and Mohau Nkota

The Qatar league champions got back in front eight minutes into the second half, with Gonzalo completing his brace with another strike past Buthelezi.

The likes of Lesedi Kapinga, Siphelo Baloni, Olisa Ndah and Innocent Maela were sent on for the final 15 minutes to help get the Soweto giants back on level terms.

Pirates did have a chance to pull level when Gilberto carved out some space on the edge of the box, but the Angolan attacker sent his strike just wide of the upright

Here's how they lined up:

Orlando Pirates: Buthelezi, Sibisi, Sesane, Monyane, Hotto, Timm, Rasebotja, Dlamini, Nkota, Kimvuidi, Mabasa

Subs: Chaine, Zulu, Dladla, Ndah, Mala, Lebitso, Mdalane, Mthethwa, Makhaula, Baloni, Mbatha, Ndlondlo, Kapinga, Moleleki, Maswaganyi, Saleng, Otladisa, Mofokeng, Gilberto, Makgopa, Lepasa
