Pitso Mosimane Has Explained That His Side Are Done Playing Shoeshine And Piano Football

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach, Pitso Mosimane says that his side no longer has to prove that they are capable of playing exciting football.

The Brazilians were renowned for their 'shoeshine and piano' style of play, which was introduced many years back by a former Sundowns coach, Screamer Tshabalala.

However, the Sundowns' side, who are now known as 'Bafana Ba Style' under the mentorship of Mosimane, seem to have slowly changed the way they play their football, with Mosimane admitting that his side is now focused on getting the results.

The Brazilians collected their second win over Cape Town City, after their victory in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup competition, with Head Coach Mosimane admitting that his side has changed the way they play against the Citizens, who defeated Sundowns three times before.

"I knew that they are a nice team; they are good, so we kept it slow, five-metre passes in the midfield and then we go out with the speed, that's it, that is the only way you could play against Cape Town City. Because before we used to play with them toe-to-toe and they used to beat us, you know they beat us three times, so we changed strategy when we played them, we no longer going to play the way they play, we play different and get the results, Mosimane told the media.

The head coach then went on to add that his side is done playing fancy football and are now focused on getting the results that will see them add many more trophies to their cabinet.

"Benni is a good coach and he loves to show that he can play enterprising good football, so we don't have to do that, we have gone past those stages of shoeshine and piano, we want the stars on top of the badges, it is different football," Mosimane said.

Sundowns will play Maritzburg United in the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup, scheduled to take place on the weekend of 20-22  April.
