Pitso Mosimane Has Explained How Important It Is To Play On The African Continent

Pitso Mosimane has highlighted some of the differences between South African teams and on the rest of the African continent, saying that experience will always win.

Mamelodi Sundowns claimed a 2-1 win over Cape Town City in the quarter-finals of the Nedbank Cup competition, with Head Coach Mosimane saying that his side is more focused on scoring the goals and getting the results, than playing exciting football, a lesson learnt from playing on the African continent.

"Our people still have to understand, continental football is totally different from this game and the opponents don't look too good on the ball and exciting as (Surprise) Ralani, (Ayanda) Patosi, they don't have that. They just move slowly and manage the game," Mosimane told the media.

"And we have learnt a lot, you'll see when we play Wydad (Casablanca), they don't care about many things, they are just organized, there is a different game," he said.

The Sundowns' head coach then went on to further explain his statement, by adding that the same way Real Madrid claimed a UEFA Champions League win over PSG with experience, his side managed the same over City with theirs.

"Back home, we love exciting football, frills and it is good for TV and supporters who come to the match. But sometimes, sometimes you just have to score the goals, you saw Real Madrid playing PSG, Real Madrid, I am talking about a big team, they just had to score the goals in Paris and then that's it, that's why Mbappe said they won with experience.

"So, we won with experience, but it is very difficult, I can't explain it, Wits have been trying to go to group stages (of the CAF Champions League) and then you look at the opponents and ask, but how could they lose?" Mosimane added.
