Nedbank Cup Report: Platinum Stars 1-2 Polokwane City 2 April 2016

Nedbank Cup Report: Platinum Stars 1-2 Polokwane City 2 April 2016
Nedbank Cup   Result: Platinum Stars 1-2 Polokwane City   Date: 2 April 2016   Venue: Royal Bafokeng Stadium   Polokwane City squeezed past Platinum Stars 2-1 on Saturday in a Nedbank Cup last-16 clash that required extra time.   Dikwena took the early lead thanks to Robert Ng'ambi. The midfielder's headed effort at goal took a deflection before nestling in the back of the net in the 11th minute.    Stars then had a good chance to press home their advantage when Ndumiso Mabena threatened with another header, but his attempt flew narrowly over the City cross bar.   However, the tie was all square again in first-half stoppage time. Edgar Manaka, who signed for City in January, scored the equaliser with a venomous header.   Rise and Shine came agonisingly close to taking the lead just past the hour mark. A free kick from Sphesihle Nzimande rattled the Stars post.   Stars had a big opening to restore their advantage in the 72nd minute but Mabena's shot curled over the bar.   In the second minute of stoppage time the hosts were reduced to 10 men as Gift Sithole picked up his second yellow card of the clash.   Dikwena had a great chance to secure the win in extra time but Eleazar Rodgers shot went just off target.    The tie looked set for a shootout but a penalty was awarded to Polokwane City in the 110th minute and Carlington Nyadombo slotted from the spot to see City through.   Here's how they lined up:    Platinum Stars: Mzimela, Zulu, Mere, Sithole, Nhlapo, Mathe, Zongo, Ng'ambi, Msomi, Nyanda, Mabena   Polokwane City: Chigova, Phungwayo, Tema, Nyadombo, Hlongwane, Mavundla, Manaka, Motumi, Matjila, Ngidi, Tlolane.
