Fadlu Davids has already broken two club records at Maritzburg United this season, and today he hopes to make more history by guiding them into their first ever cup final.

The Team of Choice have been the surprise package in South Africa in 2017/18, not only have they been punching above their weight in the league, but their efforts in the MTN8 and Nedbank Cup saw them reach the semi-finals in both – with this afternoon's game giving them a chance to go even further.
Their performances in the league see them vying for a CAF Confederation Cup spot and their highest ever league finish, Davids has also become the first Maritzburg head coach to win 11 league games in a single top-flight season.
Meanwhile, the club's current tally of 42 points – with three games to go – is already a club-best since they became the club they are today by purchasing the status of Tembisa Classic back in 2005, and they have the opportunity to add to that tally before the campaign is over.

Aside from their points and league position, the Team of Choice are also on the verge of setting a new club record for goals scored if they can get three more goals – the current record was set in 2015/16 when they scored 35 – and are almost guaranteed to set a new defensive record for the club given the fact that they've only conceded 18 all season (no team in the division has conceded less).
All of the above stats are made more impressive by the fact that Davids is working with the second youngest squad in the league in terms of average age, with only Ajax Cape Town (24.4) having a younger one than Maritzburg's 24.9.
The 2017/18 season will always be one to remember for Maritzburg and their fans, but a third-place finish and a cup final to top it all off would be an excellent way for Davids to cap off an incredible first campaign as a head coach.
