Fadlu Davids Expects A Tough Game From Mamelodi Sundowns

Mamelodi Sundowns

Fadlu Davids knows that his Maritzburg United side will have to be at their very best to beat Mamelodi Sundowns this weekend, calling them "the best team in the history of South Africa".    Read: Chiefs' Legendary Duo To Exit Club?   The Team of Choice host Masandawana at Harry Gwala Stadium this weekend as the two battle it out for a spot in this year's Nedbank Cup final, with Davids having his eyes set on a first-ever cup final for the team from Pietermaritzburg.   Both sides go into the game having won their last outings – against Baroka and Golden Arrows respectively – and Maritzburg's young coach admits that he's very happy with what his side have managed to achieve this season so far.   He told the club's official website, "I'm happy with the clean sheet (against Baroka), though I really felt we could have scored five or six with the chances we created. We take the result and now concentrate on meeting Sundowns in the semi-final.    Click here to view the Nedbank Cup fixtures   "It's a fantastic achievement so far, 42 points, the best ever for the club. And that is what we are celebrating now, that we're in the top eight. You dream about the silverware, for the players it's something to push for. We're in the top eight now, we can't relax as there are still three matches left (in the league) and we want to achieve maximum."   He went on to say, "Our focus has to shift immediately to the cup. If we make mistakes like we did against Baroka, Sundowns will punish us. We're playing the best team in the history of Sundowns, the best team in the history of South Africa. We need each and every player to be at their best, 100 percent."    Maritzburg, who beat Sundowns 1-0 in the MTN8 this season, have already won more league games this season (11) than in any of their years in the top-flight, and reaching a cup final would no doubt be an exciting way for them to end a successful campaign.
