Former Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates striker Lehlhonolo Majoro has admitted that the MTN8 remains the one trophy that slipped through his fingers during an otherwise successful career in South African football.
Majoro, who turned out for both Soweto giants and played in numerous cup finals, revealed that the absence of the MTN8 medal left a noticeable gap in his journey.
“It is one of the most important tournaments in a player’s season because it tests how far you are in terms of preparation during pre-season, and on top of that there’s R10 million up for grabs, which is massive for both clubs and players in terms of bonuses,” Soccer Laduma relayed from the veteran forward.
“I’ve played in numerous finals, but the MTN8 is the only trophy I never won domestically. It’s something I always looked forward to, and I can say it’s still missing for me. But I’m very grateful that MTN took me as one of the ambassadors, because I believe that has filled the void that’s been missing in my trophy cabinet,” added the former Bafana Bafana attacker.
Despite missing out on MTN8 glory on the pitch, Majoro has embraced his role as an ambassador for the competition, seeing it as a fitting way to remain connected to a tournament he holds in high regard.
