GladAfrica Championship Wrap

The 2020/21 GladAfrica Championship got off to a flying start with new-comers, Sekhukhune United, hammering Royal AM 4-0, TS Sporting and Cape United producing a five-goal thriller, while Uthongathi FC stunned Free State Stars 1-0 at Goble Park.

In addition, Cape Town All Stars and Cape Town Spurs played to 1-1 draws against JDR Stars and Polokwane City receptively.

Johnny Ferreira's Babina Noko illustrated that they could be a force to be reckoned with after netting 4 goals during a dramatic 27-minute period when former Jomo Cosmos striker, Chibuike Ohizu, grabbed a brace.

In between the Nigerian's two goals, Katlego Cwinyane and Thulani Ndlela were also on target for the league leaders.

Thanks to Edson Khumalo, the Spirited Ones took a very early lead at Kabokweni. But although Abantu Bemthetho had other ideas with Kgotso Malope levelling matters, Roger de Sa's side made it 2-1 on the stroke of half time, following Roscoe Petersen's penalty.

The reliable Sekele Sithole netted United's 3rd goal, while Percyvell Nkabinde's spot kick ensured a gripping final period, however, Sporting fell to a disappointing 3-2 defeat.

The Cane Cutters' victory over Ea Lla Koto came as a result of Issa Sarr's 35th minute strike, which left the ex-PSL side in a quandary.

At Parow Park, the Hammer Boys opened the scoring with about 15 minutes to go via Temptation Chiwunga's penalty before substitute, Lucky Setelele, secured a point for Igugu Lekapa.

It was a similar scenario at the Cape Town Stadium, where the Urban Warriors' Riyaad Norodien gave his side some hope of victory around the 77th minute from a good cross. But almost immediately, Rise and Shine levelled through the veteran, Mpho Mvelasi.

In Pretoria, University of Pretoria pipped Richards Bay FC 1-0 to get their show on the road.
