With the GladAfrica Championship having returned to action this weekend, the Siya crew has learnt that a young attacker has been placed on special leave by his club.
Royal Eagles are currently in danger of being relegated to the ABC Motsepe League as things stand. The KZN outfit as been languishing at the bottom of the GladAfrica standings with a mere 18 points from 24 matches.
It seems like their problems stretch beyond the field of play, after it was revealed to the Siya crew by a trusted source that young striker, Vernon Campher has been placed on special leave by the team indefinitely, and without a valid reason.
"The player started the first six games of the season and did very well. When Richard Makhoba left, it basically went downhill because the new coach never gave him an opportunity. He played one match in December and he came on and made the difference in 10 minutes and won Man of the Match.
"The club then placed him on special leave for now, and did not give him an indication of when he should return. This is frustrating because the boy has not been paid for two months and he can't look after his family," the source said.
Campher was also part of the players who had a contractual dispute with the club in October last year after it was reported that the salaries of players were cut, forcing them to sign reduced contracts - a matter that was referred to SAFPU.
Despite efforts from the Siya crew, Royal Eagles were not available for comment at the time of publication.
