SuperSport United begin the defence of their MTN8 title when they visit newcomers Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila (TTM) in the quarter-finals on Saturday afternoon at Thohoyandou Stadium.
Matsatsantsa won the MTN8 title for the second time in three years after edging Highlands Park 1-0 in the final of last season's edition, after reaching the final for a third consecutive season.
United have had a relatively quiet transfer window with a couple of additions and releases; on the latter, they will be without former captain Dean Furman, Aubrey Modiba, Thabo Qalinge and Thabo Mnyamane (who has joined TTM), among others.
SuperSport balanced the squad by welcoming on board former Stellenbosch FC striker Iqraam Rayners, goalkeeper George Chigova from Polokwane City for his second spell at the club and two youngsters from Bidvest Wits, Mpho Mathebula and Keenan Phillips.
In contrast, Vhadau Vha Damani have been very busy in the transfer market after they purchased Wits' top-flight status.
The Limpopo side, who were campaigning in the GladAfrica Championship last season, retained only two players from Wits, shot-stopper Brighton Mhlongo and defender Lehlohonolo Nonyane and have virtually assembled a new team with big signings such as former Orlando Pirates strikers Justin Shonga and Augustine Mulenga, former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Joseph Molangoane and former Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Mogakolodi Ngele, among others.
Vhadau Vha Damani also announced a new technical team, led by head coach Joel Masutha, who will be assisted by Lucky Nelukau.
