Kaizer Chiefs lock horns with Elgeco Plus of Madagascar in their CAF Confederations Cup first-round first-leg tie at Moses Mabhida Stadium this evening. The match will get underway at 20h15. Ernst Middendorp will relish the opportunity to build momentum with his new charges after getting off to a winning start in the league in his first game in charge of his second spell at the club in midweek. The Glamour Boys advanced to the second round of the competition after beating Zimamoto of Zanzibar 5-2 on aggregate in the preliminary round. They won 4-0 in the first-leg in Port Elizabeth and went down 2-1 away in Zanzibar, a result which saw former coach Giovanni Solinas relieved of his duties. The Soweto giants have not reached the group stages of an African Cup competition since going all the way to win the Mandela Cup in 2001. Mandela Cup merged with CAF Cup in 2004 to form the Confederations Cup. On the other hand, Madagascan outfit got to this stage of the tournament after narrowly beating Deportivo Unidad 4-3 on aggregate in the preliminary round. Elgeco won 3-1 at home and suffered a 2-1 defeat in Equatorial Guinea.
