Modise: Perfect Sundowns Have Not Played That Well

Legendary footballer Teko Modise believes Mamelodi Sundowns haven't been convincing this season despite their perfect start in the PSL.

Masandawana have won all of their 11 matches to date and recently thumped bottom-placed Cape Town Spurs 3-0 to continue their unblemished start.

Modise, who played for the club from 2011 to 2017 isn't getting carried away though and believes the quality within the team has not reached its full potential.

"I know it's 100% (wins) in the PSL, but we haven't played that well. We have managed to win games because of the quality but we haven't showed the quality within the team itself," Modise told the Sundowns podcast – the Pitch-Side.

"It's one of those games that justified the quality we have within the team irrespective of who plays. But we have never really had a game where without Themba Zwane, (Marcelo) Allende, (Teboho) Mokoena - this is how we flow and this game proves that," he continued.

Versatile player Lebohang Maboe, who has been struggling to play in the first team consistently over the previous three seasons, has steadily picked up his game with good performances. His confidence, at times though, has been lacking according to Modise, as Maboe looks for more minutes under his belt.

"He is such a good footballer; it's just that the injuries have derailed him. I watched two games that he started, the one against SuperSport and (then) Spurs, there's a lack of confidence in certain areas and in certain stages.

"But it also helps because the coach is playing him for more minutes and I'm sure with the assist that he had against Spurs it will help. So, he is such a good footballer. I just hope that with the games that he is going to play, he mustn't over-think things, he must just continue playing," Modise said.

Thus far, the former Maritzburg United player is yet to find the net this season. Sundowns' next encounter will see them take on Pyramids in the CAF Champions League group stage on Tuesday, two weeks after the clubs had played to a goalless draw in Tshwane.
