Sundowns' 'Mad-Dog Mentality' Bites Back

Sundowns' 'Mad-Dog Mentality' Bites Back

Bathusi Aubaas

Mamelodi Sundowns, the relentless kings of the PSL in recent seasons, wear their ambition like a badge of honour. For Bathusi Aubaas, the midfield enforcer, a draw isn't a dent, it's a shattered expectation.

The back-to-back goalless stalemates against Polokwane City and Cape Town City weren't just missed opportunities, they were cracks in the Sundowns' impenetrable armour.

"A draw is a loss for us because we are a team that wants to win everything. We are a ruthless team, we are a mad-dog mentality team," Aubaas told the Sundowns media department.

"We have to be always in that level that's the thing coach Rulani (Mokwena) always emphasizes for us to be in at training. We have a lot of quality players and this is Mamelodi Sundowns.

"We have to work hard every time and we have to have a mad-dog mentality every time as coach Rulani emphasizes we have to be ruthless," Aubaas continued.

This "mad-dog mentality," as coach Mokwena preaches, isn't just talk. It's the lifeblood of the Brazilians, pulsating through every training session, every tackle, every roar from the stands. Sundowns don't settle for scraps, they devour them whole.

But for Aubaas, the transition from hungry newcomer to midfield enforcer hasn't been smooth. Injuries and a crowded roster have limited his impact in this campaign. The rumours of interest from another Soweto giant may have faded, and the fire in his belly burns brighter than ever.

"It's an amazing feeling to be back on the pitch and I'd like to thank the coach for this opportunity for me to show that I'm ready to play in the next round," he said.

The Africa Cup of Nations may offer a month-long hiatus, but Aubaas' determination will rage on to impress when domestic football recommences in February.
