As Mamelodi Sundowns prepare for their fourth CAF Champions League group stage match, they will be looking to avoid repeating the story of 2018, which was their worst group stage campaign since winning the competition in 2016.
Sundowns have usually done well in group stage campaigns in the Champions League, but the current campaign has not been smooth, as they sit on just four points in three matches.

They've dropped five points and have it all to do in their final three matches of the campaign, starting with the clash against Pyramids in Cairo this evening.
Since 2016, Sundowns have been in the Champions League group stages every season and have failed to progress to the knockout phase on just one occasion, which was back in 2018. During that season, they ended the campaign on six points, as they finished third in group C behind Wydad Casablanca and Horoya.
In the current campaign, Sundowns' only victory came at home to Mauritanian club Nouadhibou, which was followed by a defeat to DRC giants TP Mazembe on the road. A goalless draw with Pyramids at home almost a fortnight ago was concerning, but the group is still wide open with all clubs sitting on four points.
The Premiership champions have had a bit of a rest since their last clash against Cape Town Spurs and will need a strong performance to overcome a Pyramids side that currently sits top of the Egyptian Premier League table. Pyramids have lost just one match in the league this season, which was away from home against Ceramica Cleopatra.
