Mamelodi Sundowns chairman Tlhopie Motsepe has dismissed talk that the club is weakening the DStv Premiership by signing top players from other teams in the league.

Sundowns announced the signing of Terrence Mashego from Cape Town City a few days ago, adding to a transfer window list which includes the likes of Ronwen Williams, Sipho Mbule, Bongani Zungu, Marcelo Allende and Abubeker Nassir, while Moroccan defender Abdelmounaim Boutouil is believed to be expected at the club soon, which depends on Peter Shalulile being registered as a local.

Motsepe believes players want to join Sundowns because it's a place where they can achieve their dreams. The club has won five consecutive league titles and are currently top of the standings, as a firm favourite to make it six in a row, though there is still a long way to go in the season.

"I don't where the criticism has come from in that regard. Players want to come to Mamelodi Sundowns because Mamelodi Sundowns is a place where they can improve themselves and achieve their dreams in football," Motsepe told media at the unveiling of a multi-purpose facility at Soshanguve South Secondary school on Monday, which is an initiative by Nedbank.

"We have had the blessing and opportunity to honour an incredibly special player in Hlompho Kekana, but when Hlompho Kekana was at Mamelodi Sundowns, he was playing and competing with Teko Modise and he was competing with guys like Tiyani Mabunda, who is right here with us. Iron sharpens iron, but the fact that these players want to come to Mamelodi Sundowns is because they want achieve their dreams and improve as players."
