Unstoppable Sundowns Secure 11th Successive Victory

Mamelodi Sundowns moved eight points clear at the top of the DStv Premiership table with a dominant 3-0 win over Cape Town Spurs on Wednesday night.

Venue: Loftus Versfeld Stadium

Sundowns made ten changes to the side that drew against Pyramids in the CAF Champions League, as only Grant Kekana survived and the likes of goalkeeper Denis Onyango, Rushine De Reuck and Abubaker Nasir got some playing time.

The Brazilians took time to get into their passing rhythm and only created their first clear chance on 18 minutes after goalkeeper Neil Boshoff denied Nasir, who unleashed a strike after a good turn in the box.

As the hosts gained momentum, Sipho Mbule eventually broke the deadlock five minutes later with a screamer from range that found the top corner.

Rulani Mokwena's charges quick doubled their lead just before the half-hour mark after Kekana reacted the quickest in a scramble in the box to score from close range.

Masandawana had complete control of the game and Mbule almost made it 3-0 eight minutes before the break with another rocket that Boshoff parried uncomfortably into the underside of the crossbar and the ball bounced back into his hands.

Nasir also missed a good chance for Sundowns moments later as they went to the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead without having to worry about any defensively.

Sundowns showed no signs of letting up at the start of the second half, as coach Rulani Mokwena introduced striker Peter Shalulile for Nasri in the attack.

The league leaders carried on from where they left off in the first and continued to dominate, although the clear-cut chances were hard to come by while Spurs didn't offer much going forward at the other end.

That proved to be the trend for the remainder of the game, as Coach Mokwena brought on a few more substitutes in the final 25 minutes to see out the encounter as Ernst Middendorp's charges struggled to get a touch of the ball.

Sundowns did get manage to get a third goal on 90 minutes when Shalulile grabbed his fourth league goal of the campaign by turning home a cross from Lebohang Maboe to wrap up a dominant display.

Here's how they lined up:

Mamelodi Sundowns: D.Onyango, Morena, Mashego, Kekana, De Reuck, Mkhulise, Mbule, Maboe, Sirino, Nku, Nasir
