With three games already under his belt upon his return to Naturena, Kaizer Chiefs defender Zitha Kwinika has discussed how he views his statistics.
The highly-rated defender re-joined his boyhood club Chiefs ahead of the start of the 2022/23 season from Stellenbosch and a lot has been expected from him.
Kwinika, who captained Stellies last season to a fourth-place finish in the DStv Premiership, was part of the Chiefs' development structure as a youngster.
However, the 28-year-old's return to Chiefs hasn't been all rosy as he has been part of a defence that conceded five goals in three matches, getting hammered 4-0 by Mamelodi Sundowns in their last game at the weekend.
"Stats are stats. But sometimes being underrated is one of the best things because people don't know what to expect from you on the pitch," Kwinika told the media at FNB Stadium.
"But I think you cannot write off stats as well because they do play a role. I am one person who analysis his game.
"I know the benchmarks of certain centre-backs. So, I think that on its own helps me to improve because improvement and getting better by the day is what is important in this game," he added.
The star defender was a pillar of strength for Stellies at central defence in two seasons as he played 57 matches, winning two major accolades at the club in the last campaign: the Player of the Season and Players' Player of the Season.
The Soweto-born defender has vowed to play his part in ensuring Amakhosi do not leak goals and return to the top of South African football.
"It is part of our game; expectations and performance are those things we signed up for, and I think you learn to embrace that. But it is not only about me, I can never do it alone, but I need to play my part," he said.
