Interest Heats Up For Forgotten Chiefs Star

SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews has confirmed his pursuit of an out of favour Kaizer Chiefs midfielder for next season.

Talks have already begun in SuperSport's chase for Phathutshedzo Nange from Chiefs, the Siya crew can confirm.

This is after Matsatsantsa CEO Matthews confirmed that he would be keen on adding the player to his squad next season, on condition that he is a free agent and that he is willing to take a pay cut to make the move a possibility.

Nange has found himself largely in the periphery at Chiefs this season and in Gavin Hunt, there is a coach who knows him all too well having worked with him at Bidvest Wits previously.

"I need to know that he's free because sometimes he's free and sometimes he's not free. So, if Nange is a player that is free and we can agree terms with him, then he's definitely someone that's interesting for us. Gavin's worked with him; he likes him. I can't pay him anywhere near his current package and him and his agents are aware, and I gave them a couple of weeks to give it some thoughts about what the kind of levels would be, but I believe that Chiefs may still have an option on extending him. So, you know, it's not something we've taken too far, because if they keep him, we're certainly not in a position to buy him and we wouldn't be in a position to trade players for him either," he told journalists at the club's end-of-season awards.

"So he's one that if he's free and we can reach terms, we'd be very interested to add him to the squad. Whether we keep (Grant) Margeman or (Siphesihle) Ndlovu or not. He would be one we're interested to keep, but like I said, there's a lot of water still to flow under that bridge with him and Kaizer Chiefs, and then him and his agents deciding on what kind of level they are or not prepared to take," he continued.

Nange made just five appearances for Chiefs in the season gone by and it remains to be seen where the 31-year-old will be playing his football next season.
