Shabba: Chiefs Don't Have A Team

Kaizer Chiefs legend Siphiwe Tshabalala has chimed in on what could be going wrong at the club, following their recent poor results.

Amakhosi have failed to win a trophy for nine years in a row, were humiliated in the Nedbank Cup against Milford and have lost their last two games in the PSL, against Stellenbosch FC and Chippa United.

Shabba believes Chiefs have good players in their squad and goes on to discuss why it's not working out for them despite their fame, attraction and financial stability.

"Honestly, Chiefs don't have bad players. They have good players, but they don't have a team. They have good players and they also have players that come from development, they're good players," Tshabalala told Marawa Sports Worldwide.

"But now they get lost because there's no team, there's no structure. People normally say, 'let's play the Pirates way, let's play the Sundowns way, let's play the Chiefs way' because there was identity before so we miss that.

"So, if you can ask me 'what is the Chiefs way?' or you ask a player now 'what is the Chiefs way?' I don't think they will give you the answer that you expect and also another critical thing is the team must check the calibre of players that they bring in," he added.

Not only has Amakhosi's performances on the field drawn attention, a lot has been made about the kind of players that Chiefs sign. Shabba believes the club must not just look at a player's talent but also their mental strength to perform under pressure and the expectations at Amakhosi.

"(They must) not look at the talent only but the character (because) you're coming into an environment that can be hostile and an environment that can build you and an environment that has a lot of attention, can you take that attention?

"Can you take that being on the spotlight every now and then? I think that's another important thing because some players they do well two-three games, they get the praise and they are okay. One bad game then they get stick and then they are gone," Tshabalala said.
