With the spotlight fixated on the off-field drama between Sundowns and TS Galaxy in their midweek clash, some might have missed the fact that the Sundowns bench included Sanele Tshabalala as their back-up goalkeeper.
The 26-year-old had made the Sundowns matchday squad for the very first time since making the switch from Moroka Swallows in August last year.
Tshabalala is no stranger to the local scene having come through the renowned academies of both Bidvest Wits and Kaizer Chiefs.
"I am so happy that I made it onto the bench for the first time at such a big team. Thank you to the technical team for giving me this opportunity. My teammates motivated me to always be ready for such situations. I was ready and I got the support from the guys, he told Sundowns' official media department.
Tshabalala does have first team experience though having made 10 top flight appearances though all of these have come on the books of Swallows.
Sundowns' last two games of the season come up against Cape Town City and then the Nedbank Cup final against Orlando Pirates, though it's unlikely that Tshabalala will feature in any of these matches with Ronwen Williams expected to retain his place among the sticks for coach Rulani Mokwena's side.
