Njabulo Blom's Overseas Options Narrowed By Kaizer Chiefs' New Offer

Njabulo Blom's Overseas Options Narrowed By Kaizer Chiefs' New Offer

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Njabulo Blom could find himself in a quandary in so far as an overseas move is concerned, if he signs a new deal at the club.

Blom's camp was initially unhappy with what Chiefs were offering for him to commit his future at the club, with his current contract expiring at the end of the season.

The 22-year old's prominent agent Rob Moore made it clear that his client would need to have a significant increase in his salary package and value if Amakhosi want to retain his services.

As reported in edition 1302 of Soccer Laduma, after the back and forth in the negotiations, the Glamour Boys came back to the table with an improved offer, which is believed to be lucrative.

According to Siya sources close to both camps, the two parties have agreed on a deal for Blom to extend his stay at the club in principle.

Although the finer details have been withheld, the Siya crew has been led to believe that the package Chiefs are offering Blom is worth well over a million rand per annum, on a three-year contract, with an option to extend.

Given Moore's stance that they have studied the market and have done research on what other players are earning at the Soweto giants, the final figure could go up.

Soccer Laduma understands that the top earners at the Naturena-based side take home over R4 million per annum and Moore is likely to insist on his client getting a salary package in and around that bracket.

However, such figures could potentially put a dent in Blom's ambitions to move to Europe.

Chiefs Football Manager Bobby Motaung has reportedly said that if they were to lose 'Stoppa', it would be for an overseas club.

However, in the PSL, a high value on players and huge salary packages, have prevented players from moving abroad, especially to European leagues considered as stepping stones to the major leagues, such as the Belgian Pro League and Scandinavian leagues like Sweden's Allsvenskan.

There has been outcry that not enough top players in the country are moving abroad but one of the reasons is the competitive salary packages in the DStv Premiership.

For instance, the average salary in the Belgian Pro League is €266, 000 (+- R4,8 million) per annum, according to the Brussels Times.

The Swedish FA also did a report on the state of the football economy in the country a couple of years ago that revealed that the average salary in the top league was around €122 520 (+- R2,3 million) per annum.

Therefore, financially, top earners in the country get grounded in the DStv Premiership, unless there is a big offer from a major European team that is hard to refuse.
