With Kaizer Chiefs' 1-0 win scorelines becoming a common theme, there are suggestions it is reminiscent of the Stuart Baxter title-winning era, as Soccer Laduma delves into those statistics.

The common thread in Chiefs making a good start to the Betway Premiership is their ability to keep clean-sheets, as they are the only team yet to concede this season in the league.

Amakhosi have managed to win four of the five games they played so far, with three victories coming through a 1-0 win scorelines, against Polokwane City, Richards Bay and Golden Arrows before the FIFA break.

Former head coach Stuart Baxter made the Soweto giants to be revered for the ability to keep clean-sheets, particularly in the 2014/15 season, where 1-0 wins were common, in a campaign they last went on to win the league.

Under Baxter, scoring one goal and being able to defend, became a hallmark for securing the league title, as history reveals that in the 2014/15 term, Chiefs won a staggering 11 games by a 1-0 scoreline.

The Glamour Boys in the same season were able to keep 19 clean-sheets and conceded only 14 goals from 30 matches.

However, when it comes to goals conceded and keeping clean-sheets, Mamelodi Sundowns set a new standard in the 2023/24 season, a campaign they almost finished without losing, after only getting a red mark in their results in the last game, a 1-0 defeat to Cape Town City.

In that term under former coach Rulani Mokwena, the Tshwane giants conceded only 11 goals and kept 20 clean-sheets, in a record-breaking campaign where they set a new record of the most points accumulated in a single season, 73 points, a feat they repeated last campaign.

Chiefs have kept five consecutive clean-sheets from the start of the season for the first time in their PSL history.
