Kaizer Chiefs had once built their fortress on a bedrock of meticulous player recruitment, but in the turbulent times of recent seasons, their lofty ambitions seem adrift. Enter Tinashe Nengomasha, with a clarion call for a return to the recruitment roots that secured past glories. Soccer Laduma caught up with The General.

"The club had recruited players at the start of the season but I think the recruitment policy has changed. It's not the same way they used to do in the past. You remember when they used to sign players in the past? Those players were Kaizer Chiefs material. I doubt it's the same this time. If you look at all the players that they signed at the start of the season, which players have really shone for the team? You should not be counting players," Nengomasha told Soccer Laduma.
Nengomasha's gaze pierces through the squad, searching for the glint of championship steel that he believes is required to win silverware. He paints a picture of a bygone era, where each signing was a strategic coup, a carefully chosen piece in the Amakhosi puzzle.
"Every player should stand up and be counted for the team. That's why I am saying that the recruitment policy at Chiefs is no longer the same. Each and every player Chiefs used to sign in the past had a part to play and they achieved different things with the team. That's what we are expecting from the players every time they join the club. I don't think the current players have lived up to that expectations," the former Zimbabwe international observed.
Nengomasha's words carry the weight of experience, the memory of countless battles fought and won in the Chiefs jersey. His call for a recruitment reawakening isn't merely criticism, it's a roadmap for redemption. He yearns for a return to the days when signing a player wasn't just a transaction, but a declaration of intent.
The Amakhosi faithful can only nod in agreement. Their trophy drought stretches like a parched wasteland, a stark contrast to the oasis of success Nengomasha helped cultivate. His words, sharp as a spear, pierce through the disappointment, demanding a course correction.
Will Chiefs heed the General's call? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain: Nengomasha's voice, a rumble from the past, serves as a stark reminder of the glorious heights Chiefs once scaled, and the desperate need to reclaim their place.
