Chiefs May Invite Six DDC Players For Pre-season

Kaizer Chiefs are the first team to start their pre-season preparations ahead of the new campaign. As previously reported by the Siya crew, Amakhosi had returned on Tuesday, June 20 with a meeting with their technical sponsors, Kappa.

A Siya source close to the club indicated that the meeting could be preceded by medical tests for the players before they then possibly start physical training.

The source added that the club has potentially invited six junior players for the pre-season camp and for training. According to the source, the six players could be Mfundo Vilakazi, Takalani Mazhamba, Thulani Mabaso, Siyabonga Gumede, Puso Dithejane and Neo Bohloko.

"They won't be based in Johannesburg as they will go camp outside the province," said the Siya source.

"As of now, I am not sure where they will go for pre-season camp. It's management which is arranging that. But what I can tell you is that they have invited six players from the Diski Challenge side and these are the players who are earmarked for promotion.

"Some could be promoted full-time while others would be featuring for both the Diski Challenge team and the senior team depending on what the technical team wants or needs that particular week or in a specific game."

"All six are ready for the senior team but I don't think they will all be promoted at once. This training with the first team is aimed at seeing if they can cope with the pressure that comes with playing for Kaizer Chiefs at the highest level," the source said.

"They have been doing very well in their league but you know the pressure is different and that's why they want to give them the chance to be part of the team in camp and during friendly games which they will play during pre-season and that's when they will see who is ready for promotion at this stage."

Efforts to get a comment from Chiefs at the time of preparing this story were not successful.
