Samir Nurkovic, who managed to score the winner on his return to the Amakhosi starting line-up stole all the headlines, but it was Cardoso's virtuoso display that set the tone for Gavin Hunt's men.
Taking up an unfamiliar defensive midfield position, Cardoso was rock solid for the Soweto giants, pulling off one match-winning tackle after the other, and for his efforts he duly walked away with the Man of the Match award.
After the match, the 31-year-old dedicated his award to the club's faithful supporters, who have endured a torrid time, owing to the club's underwhelming performances, while he praised his side's performance on the day.
"This one is for the supporters," Cardoso told Chiefs' media department.
"I know you guys are always behind us. This three points are for the whole of the Khosi nation, and also, well done to our team, our whole team deserve Man of the Match today, I think you saw the fighting spirit on the field today, only upwards from here," Cardoso said.
