'There Is No Philosophy At Chiefs'

'There Is No Philosophy At Chiefs'

During his playing days, Jabulani Mendu was a straight shooter and hardly minced his words. Having transitioned into coaching, he is no different. Therefore, it came as very little surprise when he delivered his cutthroat ideas of what he thinks is lacking at Kaizer Chiefs.

Mendu spent four seasons with Chiefs, having joined them from African Wanderers in 2002/03.

He endeared himself to the club's ardent fans, earning the nickname 'S-Curl' in the process before moving on to Mamelodi Sundowns.

The 47-year-old is part of a 26-man coaching contingent that are currently undergoing the first phase of their CAF A license diploma at SAFA house.

During a media briefing earlier this week, Mendu was quizzed about what he thinks is lacking at Amakhosi, which has seen the club struggle for eight years without a trophy and true to form, Mendu delivered his verdict on the Glamour Boys' struggles, lamenting the team's lack of identity.

"Firstly, any team has to have values, a philosophy. [At] any club, [when] you bring any coach, we need to know that this team plays like this. Not any coach that comes to your club must come with his own philosophy. You have values, why? Because you have a track record, it's worked for you," he told journalists.

"But what's happening in our beloved team is that every coach that comes, comes with his own things, forgetting that this is bigger than everyone else. This is one of the top teams in Africa.

"Who is a big-name player at Chiefs right now? Guys, let's have that. Let's put them out there, not the management, let's focus on the players, motivate them, put the players out there," he said.

Chiefs currently find themselves in 10th position on the Premiership log standings after 12 matches played.
