Maart Makes Promise To Amakhosi Faithful

Maart Makes Promise To Amakhosi Faithful

Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Yusuf Maart has conceded that he is yet to play his best football at the club.

Maart regularly made it into the Bafana Bafana squad since Hugo Broos took over while he was still at Sekhukhune United and he was not selected for the recent squad.

However, despite his slow start at Amakhosi, the supporters have already been in awe of his quality on the ball but Maart says he knows he can do better.

"To be honest, I feel them because I know I'm giving my 120 [percent] whenever I can and what they expect from me but I know I can give them more," Maart told the media at the club's open day.

The midfielder also touched on his combination with Siyethemba Sithebe and on the pressures of playing for Chiefs.

"We played together in the national team in the COSAFA Cup, so we understand each other. It (became) easier when he came this side and I'm this side. So we understand each other very (well)," he said.

"Chiefs is a big team, you'll get pressure, you have to handle it. Even off the field, when you go the garage, they'll ask you,'how's it, when we will you start winning' and everything.

"It's normal, because we're trying to gel as a team and there's a lot of new players and everyone is trying to get their feet and eventually, when we (find) our feet, they'll start being happy."

Maart started out his career as an attacking player but was used mainly in a defensive role by coach Arthur Zwane but says he's comfortable to play anywhere the coach wants him to play.

"Whenever the coach needs me I'll play as a 6, as an 8, as a 10. I have a defensive mindset and an attacking mindset, so it's not quite difficult for me," he went on.

"That role is not difficult, it's also not easy but you need be patient, you need to be calm on the ball, you need to have the vision to be there and I think I have it. That's why the coach is playing me there.

"I can protect them [the back-line], I have that ability, I can produce [for] the players in front of me, I can give them the ball, so it's not quite difficult."

Maart showed flashes of brilliance when he was moved higher in midfield against SuperSport United, with Njabulo Blom deployed in the role of a defensive midfielder.

With Dillan Solomons preferred at right-back, the emergence of Blom as a 'destroyer' could finally free up Maart to play his best football that made Chiefs come knocking at Babina Noko for his signature.
