Former Kaizer Chiefs Star Junior Khanye Confirms His Smallest Pay Cheque

Former Kaizer Chiefs Star Junior Khanye Confirms His Smallest Pay Cheque

Junior 'Aghahowa' Khanye – the former South African youth international who caused havoc for defenders in his heyday in Mzansi's top-flight, has confirmed how much he earned at Kaizer Chiefs.

When he started out in the professional ranks after his promotion to the Chiefs first team from the development in 2003, Khanye burst into the scene as an immensely talented youngster who quickly became a fan-favourite and showed promise with his ability and skills.

However, his Amakhosi career was short-lived as it was affected by off-field incidents that derailed his progress.

The 35-year-old says he earned a R6 000 monthly salary at the Soweto giants when he started.

"It was R6000 – R6000 every month at Kaizer Chiefs! That was my salary for the first season and the agreement was that it would be negotiated to go up for the second season if I excelled (with my performances)," he said.

"I did well in my first season, and in the second season I was earning R12 000, before I left the club. The signing-on fee was R40 000, because I was coming from development. When I got promoted I was 17," said Khanye.
