Richards Bay joined the likes of Chippa United, Stellenbosch, Orlando Pirates and Milford FC in taking three points from the Glamour Boys in 2024, following their 1-0 win over the Naturena-based outfit this weekend.
As seen during the game, fresh after being rewarded with a long-term professional contract, Mfundo Vilakazi emerged from the bench where he was hoping to provide a spark for his side.
Johnson, clearly pleased from what he saw from the teenager in the 30 minutes on the field gave a verdict on Vilakazi's performance, pleading for patience from the team's ardent fans.
"I think he did a lot. I think he made the fans happy. But at the same time, I did see him go forward, which he was supposed to do, and he's capable of doing that," he told journalists in attendance.
"We need to give him a little bit more time to settle in on the field with Kaizer Chiefs, I mean outside is fine, but he needs to settle in on the field for Kaizer Chiefs. And I thought in a lot of moments you saw him, he was happy. I thought he might be sad now because we lose and it's his first game.
"But I'm sure he'll come to the party a lot better as the season goes on and as he spends more and more time with the Kaizer Chiefs first team," he said.
