Every player has someone who played a major role in their pursuit of a football career, ranging from family figures to childhood coaches and scouts.
For Wayde Jooste, the most influential figure in his journey to a football career in South Africa's top tier is his father, with the former Buccaneer remembering the sacrifices he had to make in chasing his dream.
Jooste revealed on the Hollywoodbets Soccer Betting News podcast that his father inspired his passion for the beautiful game:
"It started with my father. He was someone that played football. As a young boy growing up, seeing your father leaving for trainings and matches, you just want to follow him and do what your father does.
"So, that was me growing up, I just wanted to follow my father wherever he's going," said the experienced campaigner, on how his addiction to football started.
When it comes to his making it as a professional footballer, Jooste openly acknowledges that his father's tough love was crucial in helping him reach his goal.
"One of the most important people in my life, my father, helped me to stay grounded. He always used to tell me that 'This thing requires a lot of hard work. You are far from making it, there's people [and clubs] that want you but that doesn't mean that you're going to play professionally," said Jooste on how his father kept him humble in his journey to pro football.
