What's the story?

FC Ravens midfielder Lwando Tshabalala cried tears of joy as he saw his surname and jersey number at the back of his jersey prior to making his Nedbank Cup debut.

The fixture was a big deal for Tshabalala and his teammates, who progressed to the competitions Last 16 for the very first time.

Tshabalala's tears of joy before NBK Cup debut

There were emotional scenes in the FC Ravens change room at the Princess Magogo Stadium in Durban over the weekend, as one of their players went viral before their tournament debut.

The Nedbank Cup is South African football's great leveler, it's where semi-professional footballers get their opportunity to impress on the big stage and fulfill lifelong dreams.

For Lwando Tshabalala, it meant the world to him to get an opportunity to start for Bizana-based Eastern Cape ABC Motsepe side FC Ravens in the Nedbank Cup Round of 32 fixture against North West outfit Spain FC. 

Tshabalala, a former Golden Arrows Diski Challenge player, was overcome by the occasion of featuring in the Cup of Dreams and was seen shedding tears as he looked up at his number 19 jersey hung in the change rooms. 

The moment was heavily re-shared on social media, as it perfectly captures the beauty of the national cup competition and what it means for the players who aren't in the DStv Premiership.
