The story

Former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns defender Ramahlwe Mphahlele has opened up about his latest off-field venture, Formation Finance, a company he launched in June to support professional athletes in managing their finances.

Aimed at helping players secure their financial futures beyond the game, Formation Finance offers tailored financial services, including contract negotiation support and investment planning.

"At Formation Finance, we specialise in financial management tailored for sports professionals. From contract negotiations to investment planning, we help you play smart—on and off the field," reads the company's mission statement, which Mphahlele shared on his social media when launching the venture.

The experienced campaigner, who is currently a free agent after parting ways with AmaZulu at the end of last season, has already roped several top Betway Premiership stars to Formation Finance.

Mphahlele has Kaizer Chiefs youngsters Mfundo Vilakazi and Mduduzi Shabalala on his roster, as well as Stellenbosch midfielder Thato Khiba, AmaZulu prospects Bayanda Thabede and Tebogo Mashigo.

"Look, we all know what happens with football players and finances, so I've always had the urge to ask, as footballers, how can we help the youngsters coming after us? Can we sit down with them instead of them going on podcasts about how they blew their money? Can we actually take them by the hand to say, 'Come here, little bro, this money is not forever, at some stage, it runs out,'" noted Rama during his interview on Metro FM's Sports Nights Amplified With Andile Ncube.

"Can you take Mfundo Vilakazi at this age and say, 'While you're playing, I'm going to take some money from you and put it away. It's not for me, it’s for you, and when you don't have a team, or when you are retired," added Mphahlele, whose venture is being aided by Prime Sky, a company that's helped the 35-year-old with his own finances.
