The story
Radebe revealed as one of GQ South Africa's cover stars for their latest issue covering the world of Sports and the Tech, with Springboks rugby captain Siya Kolisi appearing on the second cover.
In GQ SA's latest issue, 'Rhoo' discusses his football journey that took him from Soweto to international stardom with Leeds United, his passion for the game, achieving success both on and off the field, family, and the concept of leaving a lasting legacy.
GQ not only describes the former Kaizer Chiefs defender as a living icon but also crowns him the "Godfather of South African soccer," a title prominently featured on the cover.
The feature article by Shannon Manuel, sees the journalist reveal that Radebe, who received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the publication last year, laugh off the 'Godfather of SA soccer' title and how he feels that his most important work has happened off the field of play.
"To be honest, we never really rated soccer as a career, it was just hope and the actual ability to play was always a God-given talent. But to reach the stadiums, win titles and earn accolades, you have to work hard to perfect that talent," noted Radebe.
"I believe the most important thing I've done isn't what I achieved on the field, but the impact I've made off it. That gives you the, not 'Godfather,' but perhaps the 'legend' status — the contributions and inspiration you bring to the game and its community," he added.
Radebe was styled in a classy beige suite, with a white tee and matching sneakers. His look, styled by Hloni Mbhele, is finished off with a eye-catching embossed coat from local contemporary fashion brand, BOYDE.
