The story

Stellenbosch FC announced on Tuesday that they've secured the signature of highly rated Cape Town Spurs striker Ashley Cupido, beating off competition from Kaizer Chiefs.

The talented striker got emotional in his farewell message to his boyhood club, Cape Town Spurs and its supporters, in a exit interview on Spurs' YouTube channel.

Cupido leaves the Urban Warriors following their relegation to the second-tier having played just one season in the top-flight. He  managed 31 goals in 121 appearances across all competitions for the club.

In Stellies' released statement on Tuesday night, they confirmed that Cupido has penned a long-term deal with the club for an undisclosed fee.

Here's what he had to say to the Urban Warriors fans and his former employers:

"For over the last four or five years... As a player, you want to play for not only your family but also to try make people happy, the people that pay to come and watch you.

"I gave everything I had, there was some moments, especially last season, so much disappointment and from my side, I would like to say sorry about that. But over the years, your support... I just want to thank you so much for what you have done for us as players. To the club, everyone that works here that helped me become the player I am today, I want to say, thank you," says the Stellies bound youngster, who seemed to hold back tears while speaking to the camera.
