The story

It's been a month since Arsenal introduced their new 2024/25 away kit, in collaboration with adidas and British African heritage brand, Labrum London.

The collaboration between Arsenal, Labrum and adidas aims to honour the Gunners' connection to their supporters in Africa, taking inspiration from the continent's design traditions.

As mentioned on the club's press release upon unveiling the kit, the predominately black strip embodies the traditional pan-African colours of black, red, and green, this shirt features a bold white zig-zag graphic created by Foday Dumbuya, the founder of Labrum London.

The design weaves together these colours and cultural elements to celebrate our historical and contemporary ties to the African diaspora in London and beyond, highlighting the rich cultural heritage shared by the team and its supporters.

Dumbuya, Labrum London's founder, shared: "Growing up in London as a second-generation immigrant, I admired Arsenal players of African heritage who were not only exceptional on the field but also powerful representatives of our community. Collaborating on this design with Arsenal, a club with deep connections to our community, is an immense source of pride for me."

Dumbuya has achieved plenty with Labrum over the last decade, accomplishing some major accolades such as the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design and opening his first store in 2022.

He spoke to BBC Africa about the collaboration with adidas and Arsenal, elaborating on what inspired his design:
