The story
Betway Premiership outfit, AmaZulu and the Durban University of Technology [DUT] have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU), uniting sports and education in a shared mission.
This major off-pitch signing by the Durban-based outfit was completed on Wednesday, 2 July, at the Open House at DUT’s Steve Biko Campus.
This strategic partnership between two major KwaZulu-Natal institutions marks a significant milestone in Usuthu’s efforts to entrench itself within the Province’s youth and broader KwaZulu-Natal community.
"This is more than just a partnership. It is a step forward in our mission to establish AmaZulu as a lifestyle brand that is embedded in the heart of the community," said AmaZulu CEO, Sinenjabulo Zungu-Ntuli, as quoted in the club's press release regarding their partnership with DUT.
"What better way to do that than by collaborating with a higher education institution like DUT? We know that many football players struggle after their playing careers end.
"This partnership is about bridging that gap, creating meaningful pathways for both our players and the public. The beneficiaries will include our players and students alike," added Zungu-Ntuli, in addressing members of the media, university staff, and key stakeholders at DUT's biggest campus.
This partnership will not only benefit DUT Students, but also AmaZulu's players as a way for them to either further their studies on both full-time or part-time basis.
"The partnership between DUT and AmaZulu FC is a meaningful one. Our primary intention is for DUT students to benefit from this partnership," said Professor Fulufhelo Netswera, Executive Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences at DUT, adding:
"However, there are also clear advantages for the club's players, who will have access to our academic programs — both full-time and through our short learning courses."
"These courses can help players better manage their finances, carry themselves professionally, and gain critical life and career skills.
"In turn, AmaZulu FC's presence can inspire our students, and who knows—some of them may go on to become part of the club in the future," shared Professor Netswera, as quoted by the club's aforementioned press release.
