As Women’s Month draws to a close, Engen proudly celebrates its partnership with social entrepreneur and menstrual health activist Candice Chirwa, fondly known as “The Minister of Menstruation.” For the second year running, Candice has collaborated with Engen to champion menstrual education, an initiative dedicated to empowering young women in sport through education, confidence, and inclusivity.
This partnership has enabled Candice to take her mission beyond awareness and into real impact. Reflecting on the collaboration, she shares, “Partnering with Engen for the second year has truly amplified the work we do at Qrate. Engen’s commitment to not only fuel journeys on the road, but also to fuel futures, has allowed us to reach even more young girls with life-changing menstrual health education”. Together, we have been able to challenge stigma, provide access to menstrual products, and create safe spaces for conversations that many young people often shy away from.
Ahead of the Engen Champ of Champs tournament, Candice will lead her second menstrual health workshop for young female athletes, continuing the important work started in 2024. Alongside this, players will also have the opportunity to join Brighton Mhlongo’s Becoming a Future Diski Legend workshop and Thabo Senong’s coaching workshop. Candice’s session opens vital conversations about periods, body positivity, and performance, helping athletes understand that menstruation is not a barrier to success. When corporates and grassroots organisations unite, they create sustainable impact, empowering girls to thrive in school, sport, and life.
Sending a message to young athletes who are still learning to accept their periods, Candice emphasize that period is not a weakness, it is a powerful reminder of your body’s strength. Although it can feel uncomfortable or even frustrating at times, but never allow it to make you feel less capable. You deserve to take up space in your sport, whether you are on your period or not.
As Engen wraps up Women’s Month and celebrates ‘It’s Her Moment’, Engen and Candice Chirwa reaffirm their commitment to creating environments where women and girls can thrive, on and off the field.
