Powerade revitalises multipurpose sports court in Soweto.

Soweto residents were gifted a space to pause and come back strong after Powerade® completely overhauled a multipurpose sports court in the suburb.

"Sports is important in the community because it's a key passion for our South African youth," says Ramokone Ledwaba, Marketing Director at Coca-Cola Africa—Powerade's parent company. "We are the World Cup winners after all!"

The multipurpose court can be used as basketball and netball courts, a professional-size football pitch, and a 1km running track. The dynamic facility was refurbished under the banner of the sports drink's slogan 'Coming Back Strong Starts with a Pause'

"It's critical to take a moment to pause because just before you get into the flow—that energizing moment where you have to attack the challenge with vigour and energy—you need to regroup, take a breather, centre yourself, and be in the moment,' Ledwaba says.

The newly minted court offers Soweto's aspiring and professional athletes the perfect place to pause—and then attack. You can't help but feel energised and inspired on the court with Orlando's iconic stadium serving as a nearby neighbour.

"We chose that specific court because Orlando, Soweto, is an iconic part of our country," Ledwaba explains. The court was painstakingly restored, in line with Coca-Cola Africa's commitment to sustainable practices that give back.

"We're partnering with local government and communities to refresh that environment," she says.

City of Johannesburg MMC for Community Development Councillor Lubabalo Magwentshu attended the court's reopening in November.

"I am thrilled to witness brands like Powerade® embodying the spirit of giving back, recognizing the importance of community development through sports and exemplifying the core principles of service delivery and the 'Batho Pele' principle," Magwentshu said.
