Breathing new life into a beloved, but old, space - Powerade® is using their global communications platform 'Pause is Power', launched back in 2022 globally, to revitalise the popular Orlando West Park.

Pauses and breaks allow us to breathe new life into our renewed intentions and resolutions with a rested, focused, and clear mind – and where better to start new than in a rejuvenated wellness space.

At Orlando West Park, the once dated basketball court has been given a modern multipurpose facelift. Located in the bustling hub of Soweto, this multipurpose court will offer the community in the area the chance to pause and start anew their own wellness journeys in 2024 – while supporting each other along the way through basketball, netball, and soccer that can be done all on the court.

Ramokone Ledwaba, Marketing Director at Coca-Cola Africa, expressed her excitement about the transformation of the multipurpose court, saying,

"This makeover reflects our core values and perfectly mirrors our 'Coming Back Strong Starts with a Pause' tagline. At Powerade®, we believe the revitalization of the court sculpts a metaphor for the innate strength within us all. Our conviction rests on the premise that everyone's personal best emanates from a pause of physical or mental activity, and we wanted to ensure we created a space for this. We invite the community to embrace this new enhanced court for tranquillity, meditation and rejuvenation."

This initiative by Powerade® aims to give back to the community through a range of activities. Beyond your typical sporting and recreational equipment that will be available on the court premises, families in the area will be able to make the most out of the swings, netball and basketball court, professional-size soccer pitch as well as its 1km running track.

Speaking on the collaboration, the MMC of Community Development in the City of Johannesburg, Cllr. Magwentshu said, "I am thrilled to witness brands like Powerade® embodying the spirit of giving back, recognizing the importance of community development through sports, exemplifying the core principles of service delivery and the "Batho Pele" principle. We encourage more brands to follow suit and partner with the city."

This initiative is not a silo event for the sports drink brand, Powerade® continually supports local athletic events and provides vital hydration stations during marathons across the nation. While they are a sports drink – the brand is a strong advocate for the power of the pause – the importance of taking rest and reflecting on your wellness holistically – beyond just physical.

Powerade® strives to send a powerful message to all individuals, underscoring the radiant potential inherent in each pause taken - a moment of rejuvenation that breeds immense strength for the journey ahead and remembering that "Coming Back Strong Starts with a Pause".
