The Parktown-outfit had initially registered 30 players, including the sadly departed Senzo Meyiwa, injured Lucky Lekgwathi and Daine Klate, who has since joined Bidvest Wits. A Soccer Laduma source at the club told the Siya crew that the first players to be registered will be the two former Platinum Stars players in Mpontshane and Gumede. The source added that youngster Menzi Masuku will also be considered for Africa, following his blistering performances for the Bucs senior team towards the end of the 2014/15 campaign. "Pirates have been playing with only two goalkeepers in Africa which is very risky and that's why they want to start with Mpontshane. They are also looking at the defence because since Lucky has been injured, they didn't have a replacement hence the focus on Gumede. "They are of course looking at other players like Menzi (Masuku) who can add depth to the team. But let's wait when the registration opens on July 1st," the source concluded. Meanwhile, Pirates are preparing to depart for Congo on Thursday where they will lock horns against AC Leopards in their CAF Confed Cup Group B opening clash on Saturday, June 27.
