Orlando Pirates are not just giants of South African football, but of African football as well, this according to two of the club's most decorated legends.
Pirates CAF Group stage opponents confirmed
Helman 'Midnight Express' Mkhalele and John 'Dungi' Moeti have declared to the Siya crew that the Buccaneers have proven themselves as a major force on the continent owing to their rich history in the CAF club tournaments.
"It's not every team in the PSL that can share Pirates' reputation on the continent," said Mkhalele.
"Other African teams know and respect Pirates because of their achievements and knowing that your opposition respects you builds you up with confidence, hence we see the way they are playing in the CAF Confederation Cup," explained the Midnight Express.
Sharing his sentiments, Dungi noted that in the CAF club competitions, it's all about playing quality teams.
"The further you progress in these competitions the more difficult the opposition becomes," added Dungi.
"Pirates are at the stage of the competition whereby they should be comfortable playing anyone."
"All those teams who will make the group stages are powerhouses in their own right, and if you can't win against them you don't deserve to be playing in such competitions," concluded the Bucs legend.
Meanwhile, Orlando Pirates will travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo for their first Group B match to face AC Leopards over the weekend of June 26-28.
